Aistear - Doctors Surgery
The theme of Aistear this month in the Ash Class is Marvellous Me and the doctors surgery. The children have learned done some excellent work in caring for patients, they even managed to bandage up Gary the support teacher. They have played some interesting games, making funny faces before the clock ran out matching the face to the card picked out. They washed and cared for our "babies". Made some funky skeletons and created some lovely get well soon cards. We are really enjoying working in the doctors surgery and are practicing taking notes when someone calls on the phone. It's safe to say if ever Diarmaid gets sick he'll be OK based on the learning over the past few weeks.

Winter Fair Friday 08/12/17
Winter Wonderland Art Exhibition
The PTA and the pupils of Powerstown ETNS are delighted to announce that our 2nd School Art Exhibition is now on display in our school hall!
The theme of this year’s exhibition is ‘Winter Wonderland’. The artwork is now beautifully finished, professionally framed and catalogued for display in the school. As well as a great artistic event we are using the exhibition as a fundraiser to help to reduce the cost of swimming lessons for all the families in the school.
The pictures are great value at only €10 each. Framed print copies of the originals, which would make a lovely present, will be available to order during the Winter Fair this Friday 8th December.
We look forward to seeing everyone there but if you can’t make it & would like to have your child’s picture, send the money in before exhibition day and we will arrange delivery.
Art is an area that every child enjoys and the exhibition will be a big social event in the life of the school this year, so please come along, (support our fundraiser) and admire the work of all our talented children!

It's Shopping Time
This month in the Ash Class we are learning all about shopping and food. We have a lovely supermarket and a cafe set up in our classroom with loads of food and any item you would find in Tesco. We have shopping baskets, trolleys and we have loads of fun making shopping lists, collecting the items, bringing them to the checkout and paying for them with what looks like real Euro!! We are practicing how we conduct ourselves in a shop by saying please and thank you and we always have loads of fun.
We are also practicing our fine motor skills by making pizza from playdough, our favourite topping is usually pepperoni but we sometimes go for something a little different.
In our creative station we have been painting and working with fabric and fibre to great some cool looking shopping bags with the P.E.T.N.S. label. They are displayed in the hall for everyone to see and we think they look excellent.
Finally we are building some shops using lego, the shops have ranged from sweet shops, to toy shops and there was even a butchers thrown in there!
We have learned so much vocabulary associated with shopping and have come up with very interesting combinaitons of food to be served in our cafe.

This week in music we learned all about the tempo of music. How music gets faster and slower as the melody progresses. We listened and responded to the music of Bjork - It's Oh so Quiet. We responded to the music using dance.
Aistear - Houses and Homes.
We are learning all about houses and homes in Aistear this week. We work together with the Chestnut class for Aistear and we are really having fun meeting new friends and getting to play in the classroom.
There is a home corner set up in our classroom with a kitchen with all the utensils and food you would see in a life size kitchen, a sitting room with two sofa's, and even some babies that we have to look after.
We got to make some really cool new jigsaws which were all based on houses and homes, one was even on the Three Little Pigs, the story that we had been telling teacher all week.
We got to make homes out of all kinds of materials, our favourite was making tree houses. We could build any type of home we wanted, as we learned that people live in all types of homes across the world, we even got to see mut huts and igloos. We learned about recycling and had a lot of fun building our houses out of cardboard and other recycleable materials.
We also got to build houses out of bricks, from the Three Little Pigs we know that this is the best material to use to build a house.
Finally, we loved playing with the toy houses and pretending to be the figures in the house. We learned all about the rooms that can be in a house and that all homes are different. Our favourite was the big house and we loved making the ladder to get into the bunk beds. Check out some of our pictures below...

Sometimes we need help opening things but we always remember to have good manners when asking for help and always say 'thank you' when someone helps us.
Our Class is Incredible!!!
We all know how good our class can be! We are getting better every day. Even if we don't know the answer to a question now, we know we will know it soon. That's the power of the word "Yet"
